Christmas is one of the most beautiful seasons of the year — but it can also be one of the busiest. Whether you’re running slides, cueing up lights, or helping with stage transitions, you’re a huge part of what makes Christmas special. Here’s your Volunteer Guide to staying calm, collected, and ready to handle anything this year’s Christmas production throws at you.
Lyrics and slide flow
When it comes to slides and lyrics, a little prep goes a long way — especially with Christmas arrangements. These often include extra verses or medleys, so make sure to listen to the set list early so you’re ready for Christmas worship. While running through the song for the first time, make note of the slide flow and let your Tech Director know if there needs to be any slide breaks, blank slides or word changes.
Pro Tip: During rehearsal, try running through the entire service — every special moment — so you’re confident with the flow and all the cues.
Cues and stage transitions
Smooth transitions make a huge difference. Know who’s coming on and off stage at every point — worship leaders, readers, speakers — and be ready with your cues. Team up with the lighting and audio crew so everything shifts together cleanly. And remember, it’s better to go a little slower and steadier than to rush. Calm transitions help the whole service feel more thoughtful and intentional.
Teamwork and communication
Arrive early if you can — it takes the pressure off and lets you get settled in. If you’re unsure about anything — a cue, a timing change, or anything else — just ask. That’s what the team is for!
We couldn’t do Christmas without YOU!
You’re not just pressing buttons. Every lyric, lighting cue, and seamless transition plays a part in helping someone encounter the message Jesus has for them this Christmas. When we prepare well, we can serve with confidence — and even take time to enjoy the moment ourselves! Let’s make this Christmas one to remember.
